Investing in European Asset Backed Securities
Asset-Backed Securities (ABS) today represent a strong, mature and attractive market for investments. The asset class offers investors distinct benefits: exposure to a range of mainly consumer-backed risks, a transparent view of the quality of collateral, the prospects of premium returns and low correlation with other asset categories. Aegon Asset Management is a leading provider of ABS globally with assets under management of €16 billion. |

Opportunities in the venture capital & equity market (Download presentation) Jan Dexel will share insights of the impact of the transition towards a more entrepreneurial economy for innovation driven economies and present investment opportunities in the Netherlands which can be stimulated by the Dutch Sovereign Investment Organisation. The Netherlands Investment Agency, NIA, is a key financial partner also for institutional investors. NIA can be seen as a sovereign investment organisation or a national promotional bank/institution, which is defined as a legal entity carrying out development, promotional and financial activities on a professional basis which are given a mandate by the Dutch State. The principal economic rationale for such a promotional bank/institution is that market failures or other reasons, like the absence of strategic international networks, may lead to less investment and, thus, slower future growth than would be economically efficient, and that an institution with a public mandate can enable and attract private investors to invest in the Netherlands and across Europe. Invest-NL, the successor name of NIA, will operate through a combination of existing financing instruments, ESG-principles and a €2.5 billion capital contribution to stimulate investments in the Netherlands. International institutional investors can benefit from NIA’s financial operations, knowledge sharing and joining the strategic network. Investment opportunities in the international venture capital market will get special attention in the presentation. |

He will discuss some of the recent research on this front and what history teaches us when it comes to the link between investment performance and ESG aspects. Unlocking value in Japan with active downside control (Download presentation)
Pelargos’ investment philosophy is based on what we believe is a disciplined Value strategy. We have a systematic, bottom-up investment process, which we feel optimizes the generation of an investable universe of cheap stocks consisting of high-quality franchises with strong balance sheets. From this universe of investment candidates (but not limited to it), we use fundamental analysis to evaluate each company’s business model, the upside to intrinsic value and the catalysts for re-rating. We aim for our short book to be biased towards overvalued companies with business models that cannot cover their cost of capital and have weak balance sheets. We believe in the mean reversion of earnings and valuations in the medium to long-run and look for asymmetric risk/reward payoffs. We define risk as the permanent loss of capital. We are convinced that our systematic approach allows us to apply detailed risk management at an individual stock level as well as at the portfolio level. Implementation of our views is primarily via cash equities, with limited use of derivatives. |
